South Carolina Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (SCRID) 50th Annual Conference

Individuals who are not SCRID members and do not seek CEU’s but are members of SCAD and wish to attend have been given a discounted rate in order to encourage more Deaf community participation.

Howard Rosenblum

Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD)

Howard A. Rosenblum started as the Chief Executive Officer of the NAD in April 2011 and also serves as an ex officio member of the NAD Board of Directors. He comes to the NAD after 22 years as a lawyer, focusing his practice on disability rights and special education law. For 9 years, he was a Senior Attorney at Equip for Equality, the Protection & Advocacy entity for Illinois. The previous ten years, he worked as an associate at Monahan & Cohen, and briefly as a legal counsel at Access Living, the center for independent living in Chicago. In 1997, he founded the Midwest Center on Law and the Deaf, and served as Board Chair until 2011. In 2010 and again in 2014, President Barack Obama appointed Mr. Rosenblum to serve on the United States Access Board. Mr. Rosenblum has a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering from the University of Arizona and a Juris Doctor degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago-Kent College of Law. Born and raised in Chicago, Rosenblum is a diehard fan of Chicago sports teams. He also enjoys traveling the world to meet deaf people in other countries and learning their sign languages.




Phyllis Rogers

Mentoring Program Lead at Gallaudet Interpreting Service 

Phyllis Rogers holds a BA from Marquette University and an MA from Gallaudet University. She holds a CSC, NIC-Master, and SC:L certifications from RID and has been professionally interpreting since 1978. She has been employed as an Interpreter III/Mentoring Program Lead at Gallaudet Interpreting Service and currently serves as the Transitional Director of GIS.  Her specialty areas of interpreting include social work, legal, mental health, international, and educational. She enjoys interpreting in business, conference and educational settings. Phyllis provides ASL to English transcription services for video productions and research projects. She is past president of the Virginia Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Phyllis conducts diagnostic skills assessments and has presented workshops and training seminars on topics related to mentoring, self-assessment, transcription, preparation strategies and skill building. She has designed a mentoring curriculum: Results! Mentoring, and she has been privileged to provide direct mentoring to more than 60 interpreters. Phyllis authored "Sign Language Interpretation in Testing Environments", in Assessing Deaf Adults, Critical Issues in Testing and Evaluation, Mounty and Martin, ed. 2005 and "Application of NCIEC Best/Promising Practice Recommendations to Mentoring Program Evaluation", in Mentorship in Sign Language Interpreting, Winston and Lee, ed. 2013.
